Site Reliability Engineer

To keep up with technological advances and maintain a competitive advantage, many organizations are increasingly moving from a traditional IT approach to one that supports cloud-native services. This requires a shift from departmental silos to creating a resilient infrastructure that’s facilitated by DevOps principles and supported by a new engineering culture that improves service reliability.

The Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) role allows IT professionals to bridge the gaps between platform design and developmental and operational execution by applying SRE best practices.

COURSE OVERVIEW

This intermediate Site Reliability Engineer certification course provides fundamental principles and insights on the practical aspects of building, sustaining, and improving the SRE practice by mixing theory and hands-on interactive exercises to become certified and knowledgeable SRE and/or DevOps professionals.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will understand:

  • The concepts of site reliability engineering, its origins, and how SRE relates to DevOps, as well as have the knowledge to explain the principles and practices that underlie the goals of creating scalable and highly reliable IT services
  • The concepts of silos and DevOps, as well as have the knowledge to explain SRE team topologies, the typical qualities and abilities of the site reliability engineer, and methods to further improve the SRE practice
  • Quantitative metrics; matching service levels to customer expectations
  • The relationship between SLA, SLO, and SLI
  • The need for psychological safety, escalation management, the incident command system, and a blameless culture to respond effectively to incidents
  • Continuous monitoring, observability, proactive planning for disasters, the defense-in-depth strategy, and how to increase system resilience by using chaos engineering experiments
